How is Backflip different from putting everything onto CD or an external hard drive?
Backflip is more reliable than using a CD or external hard drive – using these devices still leaves your data susceptible to theft, fire and flooding and freak accidents – so basically it doesn’t leave you any safer than you were with data on your computer.

Is Backflip easy to use?
Yes! Essentially there is just one thing that you need to do, download and install the software - we do all the rest!

How easy is it to access my files online?
Very easy! Login above. Once you’ve logged in, you just need to click which files you’d like to download and click "restore".

Why do I need Backflip?
For the majority of New Zealanders, if your computer was to be stolen or destroyed (e.g. by a fire, a virus, a flood or some kind of accident in your home) you would lose everything on it. Imagine losing all your family photos, all your documents, all your emails, all your files. With Backflip you can make sure that if an accident were to occur in your home you wouldn’t lose a thing.

Do other people have access to my information through Backflip?
No, your information is encrypted which makes it impossible to view without knowing your username and password.

What if I forget to back my data up through Backflip?
Backflip will automatically back your computer up every time you make a change. Once you’ve downloaded the software, you will never have to think about it again. What’s more is that if something goes wrong with a backup we’ll notify you straight away.

Can I use Backflip if I’m on dial-up?
You can use Backflip on dial-up, however it’s recommended that you use broadband with Backflip.

Does unlimited storage really mean unlimited?
Yes, if the service is used for the designed purpose we are really giving you unlimited storage space. It’s not something you will find with many other providers of this type of service but to keep things cheap and easy we thought this was the best solution for you!
What do you mean by "designed purpose"?
Our service is designed for normal household users who want a cost effective solution to keeping things safe. If you start an upload of data that does not appear normal for a household we will notify you. This will not be an issue for the majority of users and can really only occur if people try backing up multiple computers under a single license or the service is used for backing up a business or other data intensive services not normally operated within the home.

Will you look at what I upload?
No, your data will be encrypted automatically when it reaches our servers so no one will view the data that you upload – it’s completely secure.

What is the encryption?
Your data is protected by a 256-bit encryption. This level of encryption exceeds the common industry standard for this type of product.

Does having Backflip mean that I can upload everything to your servers and delete it off my computer to free up space?
No, we only "backup" your files. If you do delete something, we will keep it for 14 days just in case you mistakenly deleted it. After that, it will be deleted from our servers too.

Can I store information from more than one computer on Backflip?
One subscription to Backflip per computer is required. Additional computers are $50 per year.

Doesn’t my home and contents insurance cover my computer?
It covers your hardware so if your computer is stolen or destroyed in a fire, yes, you’ll get a new computer but you’ll lose all of the information that was stored on your old computer – photos, emails, music, files etc.

Will using Backflip slow my computer or my internet connection speed?
Your internet connection speed might be affected when your backups are occurring.
